The first thing you need to know about baking is that someone who can whip up a batch of chocolate chip cookies without undo effort will go places.

This is all I know about baking, so I hope there is no second thing you need to know about baking...

If you think you will have a hard time making a single batch of cookies without making your girlfriend's mother's (or, worse, yet, your own mother's) kitchen look like modern art, DON'T WORRY! ...if you can make cookies all things will be forgiven. Don't ask why this works. I don't know.

Now that you've worked up the nerve to enter the kitchen, you are prolly wondering what sort of cool power tools you are going to get to use. This is understandable. You were brought up that way. It is not Your Fault. The fact is, however, that bakers don't brag about how many foot pounds their mixer can put out at 1375 rpm. Bakers don't know how many seconds it takes their oven to go from 72 to 375. They just don't think that way. So, chances are that you are going to have to use a mixer that doesn't even have a tachometer on it. It won't be a brand name that you recognize. If you don't think you can live with this you have two options, you can go shopping for "industrial" kitchen appliances, or you can leave the baking to others.

I think it is time to dive into the entire cookie-making process. Please position your monitor somewhere easy to see, and click here if you are currently taking one or more lab courses, or here if you are currently taking zero lab courses.
